The HP 305 Black Original Ink Cartridge is part number 3YM61AE (HP Store SKU 3YM61AE#UUS). HP describes it as the standard black cartridge and gives an approximate yield of 120 pages. That is a manufacturer estimate, not a promise that every cartridge will print exactly 120 pages.

What the page-yield estimate means
HP says the approximate 120-page average is based on ISO/IEC 24711 or HP testing methodology and continuous printing. The cited test was in the HP ENVY 6000 All-in-One series. HP warns that actual yield varies considerably with the content of printed pages and other factors. Treat the figure as a comparison aid, not a guaranteed page count.
HP 305 standard and 305XL: check the listing as well as the part number
HP identifies 3YM62AE as the 305XL black cartridge and its UK Store page states an approximate 300-page yield. The Amazon UK page checked on 21 October 2026 for ASIN B087DH9GT3 also identifies part number 3YM62AE, but its product title says 240 pages. Those source statements conflict; the reason has not been established. Do not assume that HP’s 300-page figure describes the Amazon listing, and do not calculate a cost per page for that Amazon XL offer from the 300-page estimate. Check the exact package and current manufacturer information before comparing XL offers.
Which option should you compare?
First confirm that the exact cartridge part number is listed for your printer. Then decide whether the standard or XL capacity better matches your expected print volume and the offer currently available from a seller you are willing to use. The cited page yields are estimates, not guaranteed output. This guide cannot establish that one option will save a particular buyer money, especially while the XL retailer and manufacturer yield statements differ.
Check the live offer
When checked on 21 October 2026, HP’s UK Store page identified the standard cartridge as 3YM61AE#UUS and stated an approximate 120-page yield. The public Amazon page B087DJ43K3 identified 3YM61AE and stated 120 pages in its title. Prices and availability change, so check the live seller page before ordering.
Sources and method
HP’s product pages are manufacturer sources for HP’s model numbers, compatibility, and stated yields. The Amazon pages are retailer listings. IMRN did not independently measure cartridge yield, confirm what a delivered package contains, or test these products. Ink yields and offer details can change.
